A legacy of collaborative law

REINHART TODAY

Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren s.c. is an international service corporation offering a wide range of services to companies, family-owned businesses, individuals, nonprofit organizations and other entities.

Where We Started

The firm originated in 1894 when William Kaumheimer began to practice law in Milwaukee. In 1919, he formed a partnership with Reginald Kenney under the name of Kaumheimer & Kenney. Mr. Kaumheimer was president of the Milwaukee Bar Association in 1919 and 1920. In 1925, his son, Leon E. Kaumheimer, joined him.

Mr. Kenney then left the firm and the firm name was changed to Kaumheimer & Kaumheimer. Gifford Alt joined the firm in 1927 and George Likert in 1930. In 1938, after the death of William Kaumheimer, the firm of Kaumheimer, Alt & Likert was formed.

1949 - 1956

The firm continued without any new partners or any continuing associates until 1949 when John Reinhart became associated with Kaumheimer, Alt & Likert. Roger Boerner joined the firm in 1954 and both Richard Van Deuren and Richard Norris arrived in 1956.

The firm maintained its offices in the Wells Building at 324 East Wisconsin Avenue until 1962. In that year, it moved to the southeast corner of the 18th floor in the then-new Marine Plaza and changed its name to Kaumheimer, Reinhart, Boerner, Van Deuren & Norris.

1962 - 1979

The firm incorporated as a service corporation under the name Reinhart, Boerner, Van Deuren & Norris, s.c. in 1969, and began expanding its recruiting efforts by visiting a significant number of law schools. There were 15 attorneys in 1970 and 22 by 1974, the year the firm added “Rieselbach” to its name. By the end of 1979, there were 39 attorneys with 13 law schools being represented by graduates in the firm, and less than half the attorneys originating from Wisconsin.

1985 - 1992

Reinhart began to expand its geographic footprint in 1985 with the addition of an office in Denver, Colorado.

In 1992, Reinhart moved to a new office location at 1000 North Water Street, where it became the anchor tenant, taking the top 5 1/2 floors of the building with 108 attorneys and 160 full- and part-time support staff personnel.

Madison office

1993 - 2008

The firm expanded west into Madison and established an office there in 1993. Two more offices followed: one in Waukesha in 2002 and one in Rockford, Illinois in 2005. In 2008, the Waukesha office moved into a new state-of-the-art building to accommodate the growing demand for our services in the western suburbs. Also in that year, the Milwaukee location renovated and expanded onto the 17th floor of the 1000 North Water Street building.

Wausau office

2008 - Present

Seeing an opportunity to better serve our Southwest clients, Reinhart opened an office in Phoenix, Arizona in 2011, and a year later, we opened our seventh office in Chicago, Illinois.

In February, 2019, Reinhart opened an eighth office in Minneapolis, Minnesota, located downtown in the IDS Center. This was followed in July of the same year with the addition of Wausau, Wisconsin, representing the firm’s ninth office nationally. Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren currently employs more than 200 attorneys and more than 250 professionals and support staff.
