- Daniel G. Murphy
Dan Murphy is an experienced trial attorney in Reinhart’s Litigation Practice. Dan leverages his courtroom experience from years of trying cases as a prosecutor to counsel clients through complex legal disputes. While he has handled a variety of matters over the years, Dan focuses his work in the following three areas.
- White Collar Defense: Dan helps clients navigate government investigations and, potentially, civil enforcement actions or prosecutions relating to a wide range of compliance matters, including healthcare regulations, government contracting rules, and others. Often these matters involve weighing and defending against False Claims Act exposure. Dan’s time as a prosecutor gives him unique insight into how the government investigates civil and criminal violations and, ultimately, prosecutes a case. While Dan worked in the state system before coming to Reinhart, he is well-versed in the federal system, including federal criminal prosecutions.
- ERISA and Employee Benefits Litigation: Dan works with Taft-Hartley multi-employer fringe benefit plans to pursue employers for withdrawal liability and delinquent contributions. Dan has also defended single-employer plans from breach of fiduciary duty claims, whether brought by the Department of Labor or private litigants.
- Real Estate Litigation: Supporting Reinhart’s Real Estate Practice, Dan assists developers with permitting and other regulatory disputes as well as disputes relating to land rights, such as those involving easements or condemnation issues.
Regardless of the substantive law at issue in a given dispute, Dan always strives to deliver cost-conscious and practical results for his clients. Dan takes a proactive approach to ensure the outcome is worth the client’s investment.
Dan has a network of strong connections in the Wisconsin legal community. He comes from a long line of attorneys, and his mother served as a state trial and appellate court judge. Dan draws on this extensive network to keep informed about developments in the law and for guidance on how to excel as an attorney.
In what little free time he has as a parent of two young kids, Dan enjoys running, playing golf and cycling. He recently took his interest in cycling to the next level, participating in the Trek 100 Ride to raise money for childhood cancer research. Dan also gives back to the community. He serves on a committee for Centro Legal, an organization that provides low- and no-cost legal services in the Milwaukee area.
