- Reinhart's Cameli Honored as Citizen of the Year by Justinian Society of Wisconsin
MILWAUKEE – Mark A. Cameli, shareholder with Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren s.c. (Reinhart), was honored as "Citizen of the Year" on Friday, October 12, at the Nineteenth Annual Columbus Day Awards Banquet, sponsored by the Justinian Society of Wisconsin. Cameli is the organization's past president and serves on its Board of Directors.
A shareholder in Reinhart's Litigation Practice and chair of the firm's White Collar Litigation and Corporate Compliance team, Cameli is a member of Reinhart's Board of Directors and leads the firm's Diversity Committee. Cameli represents business clients from a broad range of industries including manufacturing, health care, defense contractors and others operating under government-funded programs targeted in federal and state investigations for noncompliance and fraud.
In presenting the award, the Justinian Society of Wisconsin's President, attorney Christine D'Angelo, recognized Cameli's professional accomplishments but stated the award was being given for his work in the community. In his remarks accepting the award, Cameli recognized many people who influenced him as a child, young adult and professional. Recognizing the sacrifices of his immigrant grandparents, he stated:
"I stand on the shoulders of young men and women—my grandparents—who took an enormous risk and left their Italian families and homes for dreams of something more for themselves and their families here in America. And, in a way, they deferred those dreams for their children—my parents—who, in turn, did the same for me and my siblings. And I shall never forget that."
At each annual banquet, the Justinians also present awards for the Jurist of the Year and Italian of the Year. This year's recipients were Wisconsin State Judge Marshall Murray and world-renowned restaurateur Sanford D'Amato. The Society uses the banquet as its primary fundraiser for the scholarship it presents each year to a Marquette University Law School student.
The Wisconsin Justinian Society of Lawyers is an affiliate of the National Italian American Bar Association, an organization on whose board Cameli sits. Justinian Society members are engaged in activities directed toward fostering a spirit of good fellowship as well as maintaining the honor and dignity of the legal profession. The Justinians also sponsor a premiere continuing legal education program.
