Employer Alert

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration recently published its updated list of "high hazard" employers. These are employers that allegedly have experienced higher than average injury and illness rates. Over 1,000 employers in Wisconsin are the list.

From an OSHA enforcement perspective, these "high hazard" employers may be the target of an OSHA inspection in the upcoming months. OSHA is sending letters to these employers informing them that they are on the list. However, OSHA will not provide an employer with advanced warning of an actual inspection. For the unwary or uninformed employer, this OSHA inspection may result in a disruption to operations and financial liability in the form of citations and abatement requirements.

"High hazard" employers should begin preparation for the OSHA inspection as soon as possible.

If you are unsure whether your organization is on the OSHA inspection list, or if you would like assistance in preparing for an OSHA inspection, please contact members of our OSHA Practice Group Jeffrey P. Clark at 414-298-8131 or Daryll J. Neuser at 608-229-2222.
