- Reinhart Shareholder Joseph Shumow Joins Mission Abroad at Ukraine/Poland Border
MADISON – Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren s.c. (Reinhart) Shareholder Joseph Shumow, as President of the Jewish Federation of Madison (JFM), recently took part in a two-day humanitarian aid visit to the Ukraine/Poland border. Along with JFM Executive Director Alan Klugman and other delegates, Shumow spent time witnessing firsthand the refugee crisis that has unfolded following the Russian invasion of Ukraine, bringing suitcases full of over-the-counter medications and other much needed supplies to those in need, regardless of their religious affiliations.
“This eye-opening experience has given me a perspective that I would not otherwise have,” said Joe. “Seeing and hearing the experiences of those directly affected by this crisis furthers my desire and commitment to do what I can to help and to encourage others to do so as well.”
JFM, along with other Jewish Federations of North America, has been raising money for their Ukraine Emergency Relief Fund since fighting began over a month ago. Since then, JFM has raised more than $200,000, with more than $43 million being raised by Jewish Federations collectively. With these funds, JFM and their sister organizations are providing desperately needed resources, including housing, food, health care and day care services, to a number of refugee centers. Their support has helped the more than 2 million Ukrainian refugees that are currently in Poland.
Although JFM has contributed many resources to support the refugees abroad, they are continuing efforts to do more and are in need of support.
