John R. Austin

It is with deep sadness that we report the passing of our long-time friend and colleague, John R. Austin, of counsel in Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren s.c.’s Waukesha office, on July 13, 2017.

Throughout his 27 years with the firm, John provided exceptional legal service to our clients. He concentrated his practice in taxation, serving a wide range of clients and providing them with proactive planning counsel and immediate problem solving on state and local tax matters. John was viewed by his clients as a trusted adviser who could be relied upon to assist them as their businesses grew, and also to help them deal with unexpected challenges. John’s breadth and depth of experience as a certified public accountant, former tax manager for one of the Big Four accounting firms and district audit supervisor for the Wisconsin Department of Revenue, provided his clients with valuable insight into business and government goals and procedures.

John’s excellence in his profession was highly recognized by his peers as he was consistently named in Best Lawyers in America and as a top rated lawyer by Martindale-Hubbell. He also was very active outside of the office, serving as a member of the Wisconsin Institute of Certified Public Accountants (former chair of the Wisconsin Taxation Committee), was president of the Wisconsin State and Local Tax, Inc., and was on the board of directors of the Waukesha Symphony Orchestra.
