John Paul (JP) Kale is a shareholder and registered patent attorney in Reinhart’s Intellectual Property Practice. He’s an efficient translator between technology and law, helping clients understand the complexities of the patent process while ensuring their inventions and technologies are protected.

JP tailors his approach based on the individual needs, business objectives and characteristics of his clients, which range from solo inventors and startups to multinational corporations. He provides his clients with sophisticated intellectual property protection strategies that involve utility and design patents, trade secret protection, trademarks and copyrights, both domestically and internationally.

JP’s background in material science and engineering brings value to his clients, helping him to fully understand and communicate the chemical, mechanical and electrical aspects of various technologies. He drafts and prosecutes patent applications across fields, including metallurgical compositions and forming techniques, fiber optic cables, glass compositions and articles, antimicrobial compositions, filter media, fuel systems, valves, supply chain logistics, electric vehicle charging, blockchain and peer-to-peer networks and autonomous delivery systems. JP enjoys the variety of interacting with many different industries and being closely involved with innovation as it happens.

JP primarily serves clients in the following areas:

  • International patent portfolio management
  • Intellectual property due diligence
  • Trademark filing and prosecution
  • Novelty, invalidity and infringement analysis
  • Litigation support
  • Inter partes and post-grant review

He is also a member of Reinhart’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) Team and can advise clients on the technical and regulatory requirements, challenges and opportunities of AI technology.

Away from the office, JP loves spending time with his family, playing basketball and cheering on the Pittsburgh Steelers.
