Gift and Estate Tax Audits

We prepare gift and estate tax returns, and then handle any audits of those tax returns by the Internal Revenue Service and state taxing authorities. Many of these audits relate to issues of valuation of the property which was given or left at death, and we work with appraisers and other valuation experts to finalize the appropriate value of our clients' gifts and estates. If necessary, we contest the auditor's proposed adjustments by appealing the adjustments internally within the Internal Revenue Service, or by taking the case to court, such as the United States Tax Court.
