Todd W. Martin is a shareholder in the firm's Business Law, Tax-Exempt Organizations and Employee Benefits Practices and the managing shareholder of the Madison office. Todd also co-chairs the firm's Interdisciplinary Insurance group and is a member of the firm's Executive Compensation group. Todd's clients benefit from his many years of experience practicing insurance regulatory law (with a special emphasis on life and health), employee benefits plans and policies and business law issues. Todd's clients include many insurers, employers, third-party plan administrators and nonprofit organizations.
Many of Todd's clients view him as offsite general counsel, and he regularly provides day-to-day guidance, proactive planning and troubleshooting for executives and managers. Clients also benefit from his knowledge of nonqualified deferred compensation plans and policies.

Provides advice on health, dental, health flex, vision, cafeteria, disability, group term life, dependent care, adoption assistance, travel fringe, severance and other welfare benefits

Expertise in the area of consumer-driven health care on which he has written and spoken extensively

Provides advice on fiduciary duties associated with benefit plans

Business practice includes serving established and start-up companies on a range of issues including formation, governance, executive compensation, mergers and acquisitions and exempt organizations

Todd's special relationship with fraternal benefit societies grew out of the more than seven years he spent in the corporate legal department of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, in addition to his service on the merger team for the merger of Fortune 500 fraternal benefit societies, Aid Association for Lutherans and Lutheran Brotherhood. Todd's inside knowledge and understanding of the mission of fraternal benefit societies underpins his credibility in advising them in all areas including governance, insurance regulatory matters, lodge activities and requirements, dispute resolution, membership, product distribution, contracting and mergers and acquisitions
