As chair of the firm's Environmental Practice and a member of the Real Estate Practice Group, Michael H. Simpson works closely with clients, in-house lawyers, professional engineers and other external professionals to creatively solve environmental and land use issues. Mike has been a shareholder at the firm since 1983. Mike has been selected for inclusion in Wisconsin Super Lawyers since 2006, Best Lawyers in America (Environmental Law), and has Martindale-Hubbell's highest peer review rating of AV for legal ability and ethical standards.

Representative Matters and Experience 

  • Advise clients on compliance with federal and state environmental laws
  • Defend clients in environmental enforcement actions brought by federal and state authorities
  • Advise clients on sustainability issues, including creation and implementation of environmental management systems under ISO 14000
  • Represent clients before federal and state regulatory authorities to obtain permits to construct and operate, including for example: air permits, wastewater discharge permits, erosion control and wetland fill permits
  • Secure brownfield grants to redevelop contaminated properties for industrial, commercial and residential purposes
  • Manage statewide environmental issues for one of the nation's largest retailers
