Daniel Kelly is a shareholder in the firm's Litigation Practice. He serves a wide range of business clients including manufacturing and professional services corporations, financial institutions, property developers, technology companies and public interest groups.
Dan leads the firm's Appellate group. His passion for appellate work includes mentoring Reinhart attorneys interested in this field. He assists attorneys with appellate strategy, written and oral presentation skills, and uncovering opportunities to enhance their reputation as appellate advocates. As a result of Dan's work within the firm and success on high-profile cases, Reinhart has developed a reputation as a strong appellate resource.
Dan has also achieved a significant reputation for representing governmental interests, political candidates and campaign committees in the areas of constitutional law, campaign finance compliance, election law and other laws relating specifically to the political arena.
Representative Matters and Experience

Baldus v. Brennan, et al., Case No. 11CV562 (E.D. Wisconsin 3-judge panel, 2012). Along with co-counsel, successfully defended Wisconsin's redistricting legislation based on the 2010 federal census.
In the Matter of the Recount of Votes for Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice, Case No. 11CV1863 (Dane County Circuit Court, 2011). Along with co-counsel, developed and executed a successful strategy for ensuring a fair and accurate recount process, and certification of the final result. This included representing Justice Prosser in circuit court, assembling and directing an ad hoc corps of volunteer attorneys to supervise the review of all ballots cast in the election across the state, contesting ballot determinations when necessary to confirm voter intent, and demonstrating there was no basis for appealing the certified election result.
AKG Real Estate, LLC v Kosterman, 2006 WI 106, 277 Wis.2d 509, 691 N.W.2d 711 (Case No. 04AP188) (Wisconsin Supreme Court). The Wisconsin Supreme Court ruled that courts may not use a "balance of interests" analysis to extinguish express easements or compel property owners to accept alternative access routes against their will. Mr. Kelly was lead appellate counsel in this successful appeal.
Osborn v. Board of Regents of the University of Wisconsin System, 2002 WI 83, 254 Wis. 2d 266, 647 N.W.2d 158 (Case No. 00AP2861) (Supreme Court of Wisconsin). The Wisconsin Supreme Court established that student performance data is subject to release under the Open Records Act so long as it is incapable of identifying individual students. Mr. Kelly was lead appellate counsel in this successful appeal.
In re City of Glendale Community Development Authority Condemnation Award, Parcel 14, 2007 WI 94, 303 Wis. 2d 1, 735 N.W.2d 77 (Case No. 05AP1042) (Supreme Court of Wisconsin). The Wisconsin Supreme Court determined that the beneficiary of a condemnation award is entitled to the interest that accrues on it while it awaits distribution. Mr. Kelly was lead appellate counsel in this successful appeal.
