R. Timothy Muth Inducted into the Litigation Counsel of America
November 27, 2007, Scottsdale, AZ – Attorney R. Timothy Muth (Tim) of Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren s.c. (Milwaukee, WI) was inducted into the Litigation Counsel of America (LCA) at the LCA’s Fall Conference and Induction of Fellows. Muth is a shareholder in Reinhart's Litigation Department and co-chairs the Litigation Department's Financial Litigation Practice Group.
The Litigation Counsel of America is a trial lawyer honorary society composed of less than one-half of one percent of American lawyers. Fellowship in the LCA is highly selective and by invitation only. Fellows are selected based upon effectiveness and accomplishment in litigation, both at the trial and appellate levels, and superior ethical reputation.
Muth represents actuaries and other financial professionals in actions filed in state and federal courts around the country. His cases have included the defense of actuaries in professional negligence suits involving all four major actuarial disciplines. His practice focuses on providing valuable proactive counseling regarding risk management, which allows his clients to avoid costly litigation and reduce the risk of lawsuits. In one case, Muth developed successful strategies that significantly reduced an international consulting firm's liability to third parties and crafted agreements that resulted in the avoidance of $95 million in damages.
In addition to his proactive approach, Muth is a skilled litigator. He defended an $800 million suit in California federal court against a seller's financial professional (an actuary) in a lawsuit arising out of the sale of an insurance company that subsequently failed.
Muth also successfully represented a group of 36 families whose retirement funds were inappropriately invested by a broker and was able to negotiate settlements that restored his clients' money and their retirement dreams.
Tim received his J.D., magna cum laude, from Harvard University in 1986. He is a member of the Wisconsin and American Bar Associations. Law & Politics has recognized Tim as one of Wisconsin's Super Lawyers in 2006 and 2007, ranking him in the top five percent of Wisconsin attorneys.
